We scored a great deal on the vanity for the kids’ bathroom, but I wasn’t a huge fan of it’s appearance. I decided to use beadboard wallpaper (I paid $18/roll online, but it can also be found at Menards for roughly same price) in the inset of the doors and then paint the whole vanity off-white. The process is actually pretty darn simple, but I thought I’d post a couple tips if anyone is wanting to try it!

On my clean & deglossed door, I started by measuring the dimensions inside the inlay, then cut out my paper
I double checked to make sure it was the correct size before getting it wet (the instructions say to cut after it’s wet, but it tears very easily when wet!) |
After the paper is cut to size, roll it up sticky side out, then dunk under water for 5 seconds |
Remove from water and fold sticky part over on itself to let glue set. Allow to set for 10-15 minutes. |

Here’s the interesting part. I found that after the paper soaked it became 1/4″ wider and 1/4″ shorter!! It ended up that I tucked the extra 1/4″ against the side of the inlay, and the paint covered where it was too short. However, if you’re measuring for the first time you can just adjust accordingly. I used a small flat tool to smooth out the paper and get rid of the bubbles. |
And that’s pretty much it! After allowing the paper to dry a couple days, I primed and painted the doors! I have yet to get a full “after” shot, but I will update once I do!
