Today marks 20 years together with this amazing man!! I am grow more and more thankful each day for the incredible gift Wes is to our marriage and to our family. I am so in love with the life we have built, and I can’t wait to see what the next 20 years holds! 🥰

We had a fun afternoon at Grammy’s yesterday! The kids really enjoyed painting her flowerpots 🎨🪴

$Audri in her element, doing math with her dinos 🧮🦖🦕 One of her 4th grade math topics has been simplifying fractions… she’s been struggling to understand WHY it works to divide the top and bottom by the highest common factor. To help, we’ve been manually laying out the fractions on a hundred frame so she can visually simplify them into smaller groups (we use different color beads for each part of the fraction to help keep it clear). Today it finally clicked with her WHY it works and she was able to keep simplifying without the hundred frame (but she still likes to use it anyways) I love being able to let our kiddos think outside the box to find ways to make things more understandable- and it’s so rewarding when get understand concepts more fully!$

We made some #glutenfree & #dairyfree Earth 🌎 Day cake pops a couple days ago, and the kids can so much fun decorating & eating them lol!

Ingredients:

1 box @kingarthurbaking Chocolate Cake Mix (calls for eggs, water & oil as well)
1 can chocolate frosting
DF white chocolate chips or melting wafers (we made half dairy free and half with vanilla candy coating)
Watkins natural food dyes

Directions:
Bake cake according to directions (cupcakes bake & cool fastest!)

Let cake cool, then crumble completely: mix with frosting

Form into 1” balls, place on sheet lined with parchment paper & freeze 1+ hour

Use melting chocolate to insert treat sticks (I found it helpful to place back in freezer and only pull out a couple at a time before adding chocolate coating)

If desired, add coloring to melting chocolate, then coat cake pops & let set up

Enjoy!

With six kids, filling Easter baskets can add up SO fast, so I gave myself a goal this year to do the kids’ Easter baskets for under $10 each. I shopped a few stores, took advantage of some well-timed sales, and made a few activities of my own and ended up spending about $7.50/basket.

Overall I think they turned out pretty cute: Definitely very simple, but I figure they’ll get plenty of extra goodies in our annual Easter egg hunts!

It has been many years since I’ve done a “Graphic Monday” around here, but today I want to share these activity sheets I made for the kids’ Easter baskets! I had a goal this year to fill their baskets for under $10 each, and making these activity sheets was part of that goal. (I plan to share more info on the baskets themselves tomorrow, so stay tuned!)

I posted a couple weeks ago about using @morningstogether ‘s Spring Sight Word cards for a memory game, but we have also loved using them in another fun way! I tuck the little cards into our container of dry beans 🫘, then whichever child is practicing can choose the one the want, read what it says, and practice writing it with our @areasonfor blank writing pages! If you don’t want to mess with the beans, you could also just have the cards arranged face down so the child can still chose which to flip over 🪴

I don’t know about everyone else, but we have so

I don’t know about everyone else, but we have so been lacking in motivation lately when it comes to school work. The weather is finally warming up, the kids want to be outside, I have so many other projects I’d love to work on, but nevertheless there’s still school-work we need to complete! It’s easy for me to want to just rush through what we have planned to try and check off the box so we can all do what we want, but I’m constantly reminding myself that it doesn’t benefit my kids to “technically complete” our schoolwork if they’re not gaining anything from it.

Although we still do educational things through the summer, there are still subjects I like to have wrapped up by a certain time in the year (like when traditional schools get out). For history and science lately we’ve been doing a lot less writing and a lot more conversations. I have to ask a lot more questions to keep the kiddos focused as we go… but I think that these conversations are much more helpful to them understanding and remembering the topics vs just finishing the workbooks.

For math and language, we’ve been taking more breaks to do flash cards/practice basic facts (which my kids apparently love) and simply reading fun books over having grammar every day.

What works best is going to be different for every family, but I just want to encourage other homeschool parents: you don’t need to panic about finishing every book by the end of May! Keep working on meaningful lessons and relationship & it will benefit your kiddos so much more in the long run!

Happy 1st Day of Spring! We enjoyed a lazy Spring Break around here last week… it was a bit too cold for our liking, but hoping it warms up soon lol.

I have some fresh flowers 💐 in the kitchen and am feeling ready to tackle these last couple of months before summer break! Wes and I have been mapping out some summer road trip plans, so it’s definitely exciting to have our big trip to look forward to!

Happy #internationalwomensday from my beautiful girls and me! This is a busy week for us, so I’m extra grateful that we’re having Spring Break next week! My plans include super fun activities like cleaning and organizing our house 🤣👏🏼

I downloaded these free, editable sight-word cards

I downloaded these free, editable sight-word cards from @morningstogether (she has sooo many other amazing resources too!) I used the flower pot 🪴 and ladybug 🐞 designs (each set has the same words), as well as a floral pattern I found on google for the back, and printed everything on cardstock. I then laminated the paper, cut out the little cards, and used my corner rounder for the edges.

Because there were so many cards, once a word was flipped over we left it face-up until matches were found. The girls took turn flipping one card at a time, reading the word in the card, and looking to see if there was a match already flipped over. (Each sight word has a ladybug & flower pot card.)

Once they have the sight words memorized, I plan to break the cards down into smaller sets for the traditional “memory” style game where you flip the cards back over if no match is made.

I also used the scrap edges of the flower design to make counting sticks for use with the 1-12 flower pots.
