Graphic Monday: Patriotic Banner

Today I was super excited to receive my order from Poofy Cheeks Shop, including some super awesome Spring coloured twine. So what do I do? Use it to made a banner of course! with Memorial Day Coming up, I figured now is as good a time as any. I started by making 3 sets of different coloured stars in three different sizes:

{For now you can right-click & save each image, I’ll have a PDF up soon!}

The goal was to layer them in order to get as much variety as possible. I must say this brought me back to my high school days when we would write out charts figuring out how many combinations of things you can get when you have a certain number of items. I was that super annoying student who asked the teacher every single day “when are we ever going to use this??” – well kids, I just did.

the six different combinations

I printed out each set of stars 4 times on cardstock – this gave me 2 sets of 6 different stars. That probably sounds more complicated than it is lol – I just made sure within a set of three, each respective layer was different. And of course you can just reference the example above if I’m still not making any sense šŸ™‚ After I cut out my stars and arranged all the combinations, I used a small dot of Elmer’s glue in the center of each star to secure them – it doesn’t take much! Then I got all my supplies together and headed outside to assemble them.

love this twine šŸ™‚

Using a yard stick and Scotch tape, I spaced my stars 10 inches apart from each center {I lined the top of the stars up at the 5 – 15 – 25 lines} and left about 5 inches of slack on either end to help hang them

It’s always pretty windy in our neighborhood due to the fact that it’s a fairly new development and there aren’t a ton of trees! I had to add a little tape to the back of each star to keep them secure.

Love how it turned out!
